Designed by Christian Gobrecht, this 1840 $1 Seated Liberty is a very nice example of this date. Due to higher silver prices in response to hoarding (and the increased cost of gold), production of silver dollars was limited during this time. The obverse features Seated Liberty surrounded by 13 stars. The reverse features an eagle, with an olive branch and arrows in its talons.
