The Chinese Panda are a series of coins produced by the Peoples Republic of China Mint.
The series began in 1982 with gold coins, in a variety of weights, and were immensely popular with collectors and bullion investors.
Originally, each coin issue was to have a different panda design but, in 2001 a freeze was announced, and the 2002 version was identical to the 2001. However, public outcry and encouragement from collectors convinced the Mint to revert to their annual redesign roots.
Panda coins are legal tender in China and each coin features its denomination.
