The 1799 $10 Draped Bust Eagle stands as a powerful symbol of the young American nation’s aspirations and artistry. Minted just six years after the U.S. Mint’s founding, this early gold coin captures the elegance and ambition of the post-Revolutionary era.

Designed by Robert Scot, the obverse of the coin features the graceful Draped Bust of Liberty, her flowing hair framed by thirteen stars representing the original colonies. The reverse displays the majestic heraldic eagle, clutching arrows and an olive branch—emblems of both strength and peace. Above the eagle soars a cloud-topped glory of stars, reinforcing the coin’s patriotic message.

Struck in .9167 fine gold (22 karats), the 1799 $10 Eagle contains 0.4838 troy ounces of pure gold and measures 33 mm in diameter. Its generous size and weight made it one of the most substantial gold coins circulating in early America, often used in both international trade and domestic commerce.

With a reported mintage of just over 37,000 pieces—and far fewer surviving today in collectible condition—this coin is a treasured piece of numismatic history. Collectors prize it not only for its precious metal content and aesthetic appeal but for its direct connection to the formative years of the United States Mint.

Whether you're an advanced collector or an investor seeking historically significant gold, the 1799 Draped Bust Eagle represents a rare opportunity to own a cornerstone of American coinage.

A LITTLE STICKER MAKES A BIG DIFFERENCE.

Within each number of the coin grading scale is a small range of condition from low-end to high-end. Certified coins of the same grade can be of varying quality. Many of today’s collectors want coins that are solid or premium quality for their assigned grade. CAC holds coins to a higher standard so you can be confident in the value of yours. We verify previously graded coins … and award our sticker only to those coins that meet the standard for today’s selective buyer.
