1825 $5 Capped Bust PCGS MS61 CAC
As with the half dime, this type ushered in an era of much larger mintages History: This issue is collected both as a type and by date as there are no major rarities to deter the set builder.  Varieties abound, mostly confined to differences in date sizes and overdates.  All were minted with reeded edges at the Philadelphia Mint.  The highest mintage year was 1827 with 1,215,000 coins made.  The lowest mintage year, 1809, saw only 51,065 coins struck. Design: This Kneass-Reich design has Liberty facing left wearing a soft cap with LIBERTY incused.  Seven stars are arranged along the left rim and six stars are placed along the right rim.  The date remains at the bottom.  The reverse has a more natural appearing eagle with the Union shield imposed on its chest.  E PLURIBUS UNUM, still incused on a ribbon, was moved to form an arc above the eagle.  The eagle clutches arrows and an olive branch.  For the first time, the denomination is stated by placing “10 C .”at the bottom.  UNITED STATES OF AMERICA is arranged around the central devices.  This new design has a bit smaller diameter than previous but retained the same weight.
