In 1986, the United States Mint began striking American Silver Eagle bullion coins. These coins have a $1.00 face value denomination, but they also contain One Troy Ounce of .999 Fine Silver.   These coins were struck in order to compete with similar silver bullion coins from countries like Canada and China that offered their coins to a worldwide bullion-buying audience.     As they were first being designed, the US Mint decided to re-use a very popular design. The ‘Walking Liberty’ design adorned the obverse of this coin. This design was created by artist, Adolph Weinman, and it was previously used on the “Walking Liberty” half dollar series that was struck between 1916 and 1947.   This coin is dated 2003, and it bears the “W” mintmark, which indicates that it was struck at the West Point minting facility. This coin was graded by the Professional Coin Grading Service (PCGS) as “PR70 DCAM.” The “PR70” grade  means that this coin is virtually perfect in condition. The “DCAM” designation means that the coin has a “DEEP CAMEO,” appearance. A “Deep Cameo” designation means that the fields of the coin are bright and mirrored but the devices on the coin are frosted. This contrast between the mirrored  fields and the frosted devices gives the coin that incredible appearance.   PCGS is one of the major, independent, third-party grading services that authenticates, grades, and encapsulates coins. PCGS’ grading is well-respected worldwide.  Simply click the “Add to Cart” button now or call 1-866-827-4314 to speak to one of our highly trained numismatists, who will be very happy to assist you.
