In celebration of the 100th anniversary of the Standing Liberty Quarter, Mercury Dime and Walking Liberty Half Dollar, the U.S. Mint put together a commemorative collection of all three coins, minted in 2016 and are made with .9999 fine gold
This centennial gold set contains a 1/10 oz Mercury Dime, 1/4 oz Standing Liberty Quarter, and the 1/2 oz Walking Liberty Half Dollar.
Mercury Dime
Originally struck from 1916-1945, the Mercury Dime featured a stylized vision of Liberty, wearing a winged Phrygian cap. This cap is reminiscent of the wings of the god Mercury, giving rise to its more common name. The reverse design of this coin features a fasces and olive branch. The Mercury Dime was designed by Adolph A. Weinman.
Standing Liberty Quarter
The Standing Liberty Quarter was originally minted for 1916-1930. The obverse was designed by Hermon MacNeil and features a more militaristic Liberty than was previously known. The obverse has Liberty holding a shield and an olive branch, walking through an opening in a wall. The wall contains 13 stars. On the reverse, MacNeil's original design is maintained, with an eagle in flight, surrounded by 13 stars.
Walking Liberty Half Dollar
In this set, the longest produced coin is the Walking Liberty Half Dollar. It was minted from 1916-1947. Like the Mercury Dime, this coin was designed by Adolph A. Weinman. The obverse image hearkens back to a more traditional Liberty, draped in an American flag and carrying branches of both laurel and oak, which symbolize civil and military supremacy. The reverse features a bald eagle with wings spread, standing atop a perch.
