Introduced in 1982, the Chinese Gold Panda is a series of gold bullion coins minted in the Shanghai Mint, the Shenyang Mint and, since 2005, the Shenzhen Guobao Mint which is located near Hong Kong.
Issued annually, these coins feature an uncirculated, proof like quality and are available in sizes ranging from 1/20 oz. to 1 oz. Some years included much larger sizes, including 5 oz. and 12 oz. coins which are .9999 pure.
The obverse of this coin highlights the Temple of Heaven, with Chinese characters spelling Zhonghua Renmin Gongheguo, or People’s Republic of China.
The reverse is an image of a panda and this design changes annually. The only exception to this rule was in 2001/2002, when the same image was used because of production issues.
The Chinese Gold Panda is one of the most popular and beloved coins available and is a great choice for discriminating investors worldwide.
