1811 $5 Capped Bust Small 5 NGC MS63 CAC

There were two design varieties of the 1811 Capped Bust Half Eagle. One is the coin featured here. On the reverse the number “5” is smaller and narrower, falling well above the rim. The second design featured a large “5” which was wider, and nearly touched the rim design of the coin. Interestingly, from 1808 to 1820, Half Eagles were the only gold coins minted in America.
