2024 1 oz Austrian Gold Philharmonic BU
History
In 1989, Austria joined the chorus of nations producing gold bullion coins. It introduced the Austrian Philharmonic gold coin. The coin is considered one of most beautiful of all gold bullion coins. It blends a beautiful coin design with music. The coin honors Vienna as a great musical city as well as honoring the world-renowned Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra.Design
The obverse of the coin depicts the Great Organ of the Golden Hall in Vienna’s Concert Hall, called the Musikverein, which has been called the greatest concert hall in the world. The great organ is the dominant feature of the obverse, but the date, weight and face value share the obverse. The reverse of the coin depicts numerous and highly detailed musical instruments such as a Violin, a harp, a cello and a bassoon.
When the coins were first minted, the original denomination was 2,000 Austrian Schillings but in 2002, when the Euro was introduced to the world, the new denomination on the One Troy Ounce coin became 100 Euros.
Due to the purity and quality of manufacturing, these gold Austrian Philharmonic coins qualify for inclusion in IRA Precious Metal Accounts.
The Austrian Mint has not only periodically added some fractional size coins, such as a 1/25th, 1/10th, ¼, and 1/2 Troy Ounce coins. They also created a couple of unusual coins. For the 15th Anniversary of the Philharmonic in 2004, the Austrian Mint created a 1,000-ounce version of the Philharmonic with a face value of 100,000 Euros.
For its 20th Anniversary in 2009, the Austrian Mint created a 20-ounce version of the Philharmonic. These “Big Phil” coins are only occasionally available due to their very high value.
