Responding to public demands, Congress issued a directive to include the motto "IN GOD WE TRUST" on the coin, in accordance with the Act of March 3, 1865. This motto was incorporated onto the reverse side, positioned above the eagle's left shoulder.
Starting from 1912, the number of stars adorning the coin's edge was raised from 46 to 48, symbolizing the inclusion of New Mexico and Arizona as new states in the Union. A minor adjustment was also made to the positioning of the letter "U" in "UNUM."
Regarded as one of the most aesthetically pleasing coins ever produced by an American Mint, Indian Head Eagles enjoy widespread popularity among collectors. Many enthusiasts assemble comprehensive sets featuring various dates and mintmarks, with the notable exception of the exceedingly rare (and costly) 1933 edition.
