History
The American Silver Eagle bullion coin program began in 1986 along with the Gold Eagle program. It was very successful initially, and it only grew from there. People loved these American silver bullion coins, especially how they looked.
Design
The obverse of the coin was a wonderful copy of Adolph Weinman’s Walking Liberty Half Dollar from 1916 – 1947. The coin’s design is a classic and it is very popular with collectors and investors. The current date and “IN GOD WE TRUST,” also adorn the obverse.
The reverse was beautifully designed by the Chief Engraver of the United States Mint John Mercanti. His design was inspired by the Heraldic Eagle design of the early (1798 – 1804) Draped Bust Silver Dollars.
The eagle hold arrows (war) and an olive branch (peace) in its talons. It has a shield over its chest and a ribbon in its beak. On the ribbon is inscribed “E PLURIBUS UNUM,” and there are 13 5-pointed stars above the eagle. Around the periphery are “UNITED STATES OF AMERICA,” “ONE OUNCE FINE SILVER,” and “ONE DOLLAR.”
This listing is for a 1993-P American Silver Eagle bullion coin graded as Proof 70 Deep Cameo (PR70 DCAM) by the Professional Coin Grading Service (PCGS), which is very scarce in that perfect condition. PCGS is one of the major, independent, coin grading services that is highly respected and it’s grading is accepted worldwide.
