One way that the US Mint assured their popularity was to utilize a popular and important historical design. The obverse design of these coins is a faithful reproduction of the Walking Liberty silver half dollar design created by Adolph Weinman, which was struck between 1916 and 1947. The design portrays Miss Liberty, in flowing robes and an American flag, with her right hand extended, and olive branches in her left hand. She walks towards the viewer and is in front of a rising sun. The word “LIBERTY” adorns the upper periphery and “IN GOD WE TRUST,” is in the right field. The date of issue is below. The reverse design is relatively new, having been implemented half-way through the 2021 minting year. It is unusual in having two different designs on reverses for coins dated 2021. The new design was created by artist Emily Damstra, who depicted an eagle in flight carrying an oak branch in her talon. This coin is a 2024-W Silver Eagle bullion coin, struck at the West Point minting facility. It has been graded as “Proof 70, Ultra Cameo” by the Numismatic Guaranty Corporation (NGC). NGC is one of the major, independent, third-party grading services. NGC’s grading is respected and accepted worldwide. Proof 70 indicates that the coin is in Perfect and unimprovable condition. The “Ultra Cameo” designation is given to coins with tremendous eye appeal that have frosted devices and mirrored fields giving the coin remarkable contrast.
