There are numerous inserts that the major grading services use to explain a designation or the provenance of a particular coin. This coin is a 2024 American Silver Eagle bullion coin. It has been graded as MS70 and is housed in a Professional Coin Grading Service (PCGS) holder that also depicts the one of the US Mint’s Green Monster Boxes that typically house 500 coins. These Monster Boxes are very popular ways to also buy American Silver Eagle bullion coins if one can afford to buy them 500 at a time.
Also, on the PCGS holder insert is the designation of being a “FIRST STRIKE” coin. The MS70 grade means that the coin has no noticeable marks or blemishes, and the First Strike designation means it was delivered to PCGS for grading within 30 days of release. And the Moster Box depiction means that PCGS opened the mint-sealed box and graded these coins. PCGS was one of the first independent, third-party grading services and their grading is recognized and accepted worldwide.
The obverse is the expected Walking Liberty design made popular in 1916 on the circulating silver Half Dollar coins. They were designed by Adolf Weinman and were struck between 1916 and 1947. The reverse was re-designed part way through 2021 and coins of that date can either have the Heraldic Eagle design, first used in 1986 and called Type I.
Or the coins could be the newer design created by artist Emily Damstra and first used later in April of 2021. These coins depict an American Bald Eagle flying and about to land. These are the Type II design.
