Introduction

History
For much of the 20th century, U.S. dimes intended for circulation were struck from an alloy of 90% silver and 10% copper. This composition was used through 1964 before rising silver prices led the United States to remove silver from circulating dimes beginning in 1965.
Depending on available inventory, lots may include Mercury Dimes, issued from 1916 through 1945, and Roosevelt Dimes, introduced in 1946. These coins circulated extensively in American commerce and are now widely collected and traded for both their historic interest and precious metal content.
Design
Designs vary according to the dates included. Mercury Dimes feature Adolph A. Weinman's Winged Liberty Head design on the obverse and a fasces with an olive branch on the reverse. Roosevelt Dimes feature President Franklin D. Roosevelt on the obverse and a torch flanked by olive and oak branches on the reverse.
