Monster Boxes – Silver Eagles

History

The American Silver Eagle was the very first silver bullion coin ever struck by the United States Mint. Annually minted since 1986, the American Silver Eagle is one of the most popular silver bullion coins in the world.
The obverse design depicts Miss Liberty walking towards the viewer, which was based on the popular Walking Liberty design by Adolph A. Weinman and used on the Walking Liberty Half Dollar coins of 1916 to 1947.
The reverse design of a traditional heraldic-type American Bald Eagle was created by the former Chief Engraver of the United States Mint John Mercanti. His design became popularly known as the Type 1 design.
Mercanti’s reverse design stood the test of time for 35 years until 2021, when, mid-year, a new design was chosen for the reverse by the noted nature coin designer, Emily S. Damstra. Her design depicts an American Eagle landing on a tree branch. It truly depicts the beauty and majesty of an eagle in flight.
Damstra’s design became known as the Type 2 design. These designs remain true to the original coins first struck in the late 18th Century, depicting an allegorical representation of Liberty on the obverse and a depiction of an American Eagle on the reverse.

Design

All of the Brilliant Uncirculated American Silver Eagle bullion coins were originally shipped in heavy-duty, high-quality green plastic Monster Boxes. Each of these Monster Boxes originally contained 25 plastic tubes, each containing 20 American Silver Eagle bullion coins. So, as the boxes were shipped, each contained a total of 500 of the American Silver Eagle coins.
The coins were minted from .999 Fine Silver, measure 40.6 mm in diameter, and bear a $1.00 denomination. The dates of the coins in these Monster Boxes may vary but each box contains 500 coins of the same date. These Monster Boxes are also strapped shut with two plastic straps, just as they left the Mint.
Monster Boxes are highly sought after by collectors and investors who are seeking coins that are unsearched and direct from the Mint. These Monster Boxes are very much in demand and quantities are extremely limited.
