On June 6, 1944, D-Day, over 132,000 ground troops and 18,000 paratroopers successfully landed on five assault beaches along the Normandy coast in France. This pivotal moment allowed the Allies to establish a critical foothold in mainland Europe, opening a second front against Germany and significantly shifting the momentum of World War II.
This commemorative coin range marks the 80th anniversary of D-Day, a moment made more poignant as these events will soon move beyond living memory. The reverse of the coin features a design by Dan Thorne, a product designer at The Royal Mint, that depicts Allied soldiers risking their lives to wade ashore.
