The 1892-CC $5 Liberty Gold Half Eagle is a treasured piece of American history, struck at the legendary Carson City Mint in Nevada—a facility synonymous with the Wild West and frontier-era gold. This coin represents one of the final years of $5 Liberty production at the Carson City Mint, which closed just one year later in 1893.

Designed by Christian Gobrecht, the Liberty Head Half Eagle series ran from 1839 to 1908 and features a classic depiction of Lady Liberty wearing a coronet inscribed with the word “LIBERTY.” The reverse displays a heraldic eagle clutching arrows and an olive branch, encircled by the words “UNITED STATES OF AMERICA” and the denomination “FIVE D.” The “CC” mintmark just below the eagle confirms its origin at Carson City.

With a modest mintage of only 82,968 coins, the 1892-CC is scarce today, especially in higher circulated or uncirculated grades. Many were lost to circulation or melted down, making surviving examples increasingly desirable among collectors of Old West coinage and Carson City issues. Its low mintage and association with one of the most iconic U.S. branch mints only enhances its collectible appeal.

Each coin contains 0.24187 troy ounces of gold, making it a tangible store of value as well as a piece of 19th-century Americana. Collectors value this coin not only for its gold content, but also for the story it tells—of stagecoaches, saloons, silver booms, and frontier life.

Whether you’re assembling a Carson City set, building a collection of Liberty Head gold coins, or simply seeking an authentic relic from the American West, the 1892-CC $5 Liberty Gold Half Eagle is an exceptional addition. Its rarity, historic mintmark, and timeless design ensure lasting value and strong demand among numismatists and investors alike.
