Introduction
The 1893-CC $20 Liberty Head Double Eagle graded NGC MS61 and approved by CAC represents a scarce survivor from the historic Carson City Mint. History
The Carson City Mint operated during the height of the American silver and gold boom, serving the mining regions of the Old West. The 1893-CC issue was produced in limited numbers as economic uncertainty loomed in the years surrounding the Panic of 1893. Double Eagles from this mint are prized for their low survival rates and direct connection to Western expansion and commerce.
Design
Designed by James B. Longacre, the obverse depicts Lady Liberty wearing a coronet inscribed with LIBERTY, surrounded by thirteen stars and the date below. The reverse features a heraldic eagle with a shield, olive branch, and arrows, along with the denomination and mintmark. The coin’s original surfaces and CAC approval confirm its solid mint-state quality and visual appeal within the grade.
