I could not find a way to use e-check on checkout so I will have to mail a check. My bank charges to much for a wire transfer.
Introduction
The 1899-S $10 Liberty Eagle graded PCGS MS64 is a stunning near-Gem example of America’s classic gold coinage. Struck in the final years of the Liberty Head series, this piece offers exceptional luster, sharp detail, and strong eye appeal—attributes rarely seen in surviving pre-1900 gold. With its impressive preservation and rich historical charm, this 19th-century gold eagle represents a premium opportunity for collectors seeking high-grade U.S. Mint gold from the golden era of American coin production.
History
The Liberty Head Eagle series, designed by Chief Engraver Christian Gobrecht, was introduced in 1838 and struck until 1907, spanning some of the most transformational decades in American history. By 1899, the San Francisco Mint played a vital role in supplying gold coinage to the booming Western economy shaped by the legacy of the Gold Rush and expanding commerce across the Pacific. Survivors of this era in Mint State grades are significantly scarcer than their original mintage figures suggest, as most coins saw heavy circulation or were later melted during the 20th century. The 1899-S stands out as a desirable late-issue example, especially in MS64 condition.
Design
The obverse features Liberty wearing a coronet inscribed with LIBERTY, surrounded by 13 stars and the date below. The reverse displays a commanding heraldic eagle with a shield on its breast, clutching arrows and an olive branch, symbolizing strength and peace. The motto IN GOD WE TRUST appears above the eagle, reflecting the post-1866 design change. Struck in 90% gold and 10% copper, with a weight of 16.718 grams and a diameter of 27 mm, this MS64 specimen exhibits outstanding surface quality and captivating luster, making it a standout example of late-19th-century American gold artistry and craftsmanship.
