I could not find a way to use e-check on checkout so I will have to mail a check. My bank charges to much for a wire transfer.
Introduction
The 1914 $2.50 Indian NGC MS63 CAC is a beautiful example of Bela Lyon Pratt’s innovative incuse-design Quarter Eagle series. With strong luster, sharp detail, and surfaces that exceed typical Mint State quality for the issue, this CAC-approved piece offers collectors both exceptional eye appeal and added assurance of premium grade accuracy. As an accessible yet desirable early 20th-century U.S. gold coin, it stands out as a high-quality choice for advanced and emerging collectors alike.
History
The Indian Head Quarter Eagle series was introduced in 1908 and marked a radical shift in American coin design. Pratt’s incuse concept—striking the design elements below the surface rather than raising them—was unique among circulating U.S. gold coinage. The 1914 issue was produced during a period of renewed economic stability following the financial disruptions of 1913, and these coins saw broad use in daily commerce. Many examples show heavy wear or significant marks, making well-preserved Mint State survivors like this MS63 CAC specimen appealing and relatively scarce.
Design
The obverse features the profile of a Native American chief wearing a feathered headdress, surrounded by thirteen stars and the date below. The recessed striking technique gives the portrait a sculptural, carved appearance. The reverse depicts a standing eagle resting on a bundle of arrows and an olive branch—symbols of military readiness and peace. The distinctive incuse style sets this series apart from all other U.S. gold issues, and this NGC MS63 CAC example displays excellent detail and originality, making it a standout representation of Pratt’s groundbreaking design.
