History
American Silver Eagle coins were part of the American Silver Eagle bullion coin program begun in 1986. It was an immediate hit – worldwide. As they coins became available, they were gobbled up by collectors, investors, and dealers alike.
The coins contained One Troy Ounce of .999 Fine Silver and were struck in both Brilliant Uncirculated and Proof and certain coins were struck at different mints at different times.
Beyond the coins themselves, the major grading services were able to add value, sometimes significant value, to the uncertified coin. These grading companies, for a fee, authenticate, grade, and encapsulate the coins. But not all grading services are equal.
The primary grading services that add value are and are reliable are the Certified Acceptance Corporation (CAC), the Numismatic Guaranty Corporation (NGC), and the Professional Coin Grading Service (PCGS). The coins graded by these companies are considered to be accurately graded and are more valuable than coins that were not certified.
