Introduction
The 1998 1 oz Silver American Eagle CACG MS69 is a stunning high-grade example from the later years of the first decade of the Silver Eagle series. Certified MS69 by CACG, this coin displays exceptional luster, sharp detail, and nearly flawless surfaces—qualities that make it a desirable choice for collectors pursuing top-quality certified bullion. With its brilliant finish and impressive eye appeal, the 1998 issue stands out as an excellent addition to any Silver Eagle collection.
History
Since its introduction in 1986, the American Silver Eagle has become the most popular and widely collected silver bullion coin in the world. The 1998 release comes from a period of steadily rising demand for precious metals and growing interest in assembling date sets of Silver Eagles. As the thirteenth year of the series, the 1998 issue reflects the continued success of the U.S. Mint’s flagship bullion program. Collectors appreciate this date for its strong strike quality and its place within the early-history phase of the series before the design change in 2021.
Design
The obverse features Adolph A. Weinman’s iconic Walking Liberty design, originally minted on the half dollar beginning in 1916. Liberty strides toward the rising sun, draped in the American flag and carrying branches of laurel and oak—symbols of strength and honor. The reverse, designed by Chief Engraver John Mercanti, depicts a heraldic eagle with a shield, clutching arrows and an olive branch, with thirteen stars above representing the original colonies. The brilliant uncirculated finish highlights the fine detail and clean surfaces that earned this example its MS69 grade from CACG.
