The only precious metals dealer I’ve ever used!

This is a beautiful 2017-W American Silver Eagle that has been graded as “Proof 70, Ultra Cameo,” by the Numismatic Guaranty Corporation (NGC). NGC is one of the major, independent, third-party grading services in the world. NGC will authenticate, grade, and encapsulate coins and their grading is recognized and accepted worldwide.

The American Silver Eagle bullion coin program was started in 1986 after South Africa, Canada, and China had all started striking Troy Ounce bullion coins. This program, along with the gold bullion coin program, have been immensely popular and successful.

When the program started, the Mint made certain that the design of the coins would be popular and well-received. The Mint selected and re-used the popular “Walking Liberty” design, created by the artist, Adolph Weinman. This popular design was used on the Walking Liberty half dollar series from 1916 through 1947.

The design depicts an allegorical representation of Miss Liberty who is seen walking to the left. She is wearing flowing robes and has an American flag wrapped around her shoulders. Liberty’s right hand is outstretched  while she cradles a bundle of olive branches in her left arm.

Above Miss Liberty, on the upper periphery, is the word “LIBERTY.” In the right field is the motto, “IN GOD WE TRUST,” and the date of striking is on the lower periphery.

The reverse of the coin borrows its design from a very early series of American Silver Dollars from the 18th century. The Chief Engraver of the US Mint in 1986 was John Mercanti and he created a Heraldic Eagle reverse. The design has an eagle in the center with a shield covering much of its body. The eagle has arrows in one talon and an olive branch in the other. Above the eagle are 13 five-pointed stars and around the periphery are “UNITED STATES OF AMERICA,” as well as “1 OZ. FINE SILVER – ONE DOLLAR.”

The coin has been graded as “Proof 70, Ultra Cameo,” by Numismatic Guaranty Corporation (NGC). NGC is a major, independent, third-party grading service, whose grading opinions are recognized and accepted worldwide. The “Proof 70,” grade means that the coin is virtually perfect in condition. The designation of “Ultra Cameo,” means that the fields of the coin are mirrored and reflective while the devices are frosted, providing a beautiful contrast between the two.
