History
The American Gold Eagle bullion coin program has been very successful since its inception in 1986. The One Troy Ounce coins are very much in demand both across the nation and worldwide.
But as Gold prices have risen and demand also has increased, the smaller size and weight Gold Eagle coins have proven to be very popular. When the American Gold Eagle program began in 1986, the price of one Troy Ounce of gold was between $340 and $445 for One Troy Ounce.
Today, Gold is several multiples of that price. But even when gold was under $500 per Troy Ounce, smaller gold coins made it affordable for almost everyone.
Smaller size gold coins are popular for investment, for security and for trading purposes. In 2024, these coins are especially important as gold hits new all-time high prices.
Design
The obverse of these 2024 American Gold Eagle bullion coins utilizes a faithful rendition of Augustus Saint-Gaudens’ $20.00 Gold Double Eagle. The reverse of this coin displays a closeup of the head and peak of an American Bald Eagle. This design was created by artist Jennie Norris.
These coins are struck in 22 carat gold (.9167 Fine Gold), and each contain 0.10 Troy Ounces of pure gold.
This coin has been graded by the Numismatic Guaranty Corporation (NGC) as a MS-70 (Mint State) which means it has perfect surfaces. Coins are graded on a scale from 1 to 70 with 70 being the highest score a coin can be graded. NGC also designated this coin as an Early Release (ER) which means it was received by them for grading within the first 30 days the program was launched.
