History
British Sovereigns are some of the most recognizable gold coins ever struck. Considering that they have been continuously available to collectors since the early 19th Century, it is no surprise they are so well-known.
Design
The coins typically portray the then-reigning monarch on the obverse surrounded by a Latin inscription declaring their royal title. Since the 20th Century all of the kings of Great Britain have used the “Saint George Slaying the Dragon” reverse as it represents the struggle of good over evil. That design has been synonymous with England since the times of ancient Rome.
During the modern sovereign period (1817 to present) the two longest reigning monarchs were Queens Victoria and Elizabeth II who served 63 years (Victoria) and 70 years (Elizabeth).
During this  same period, the following Kings served as monarch:
  • King Edward VII
  • King George V
  • King Edward VIII
  • King George VI
  • King Charles III
This listing is for British Sovereigns that would portray a King as the monarch. They will be chosen by us, based on our current inventory holdings.
