Introduction
The 2000-P 1 oz Silver Eagle graded NGC PF70 Ultra Cameo represents the highest level of modern proof coin preservation. Struck at the Philadelphia Mint from one troy ounce of .999 fine silver, this flawless proof combines impeccable surfaces with dramatic Ultra Cameo contrast between deeply mirrored fields and frosted design elements. As a perfect PF70 example certified by Numismatic Guaranty Company (NGC), it is an exceptional addition to any modern numismatic collection.
History
Introduced in 1986, the American Silver Eagle has become the official silver bullion coin of the United States and one of the world's most collected modern coin series. In addition to bullion strikes, the United States Mint produces proof versions specifically for collectors using specially polished dies and carefully prepared planchets to achieve exceptional detail and brilliant mirrored finishes.
The 2000 proof Silver Eagle was struck at the Philadelphia Mint and bears the distinctive P mintmark. Unlike bullion issues, proof coins are individually struck multiple times to produce sharp details and outstanding visual contrast. A PF70 Ultra Cameo designation from NGC signifies a flawless coin with no post-production imperfections visible under 5x magnification, making it one of the finest examples available to collectors.
Design
The obverse features Adolph A. Weinman's iconic Walking Liberty design, first introduced on the Half Dollar in 1916. Liberty strides toward the rising sun while draped in the American flag and carrying branches of laurel and oak, symbolizing hope, strength, and freedom. The inscriptions LIBERTY, IN GOD WE TRUST, and the date complete one of the most celebrated designs in American coinage.
The reverse showcases John Mercanti's Heraldic Eagle design, depicting a shielded bald eagle holding an olive branch and arrows beneath thirteen stars representing the original colonies. The inscriptions UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, 1 OZ. FINE SILVER, ONE DOLLAR, and E PLURIBUS UNUM surround the eagle, while the P mintmark identifies the coin as a proof strike from the Philadelphia Mint.
