I could not find a way to use e-check on checkout so I will have to mail a check. My bank charges to much for a wire transfer.

Introduction

The 1795 Flowing Hair Half Dime is a cornerstone of early American coinage and a highly sought-after example of the first U.S. half dime design. Certified XF45 by PCGS and verified by CAC, this historic silver coin exhibits impressive detail and eye appeal for its age. Each surviving specimen serves as a tangible link to the early days of the United States Mint and the nation’s founding years.

History

The Flowing Hair Half Dime was among the first silver coins produced by the newly established U.S. Mint in Philadelphia. Struck in 1794 and 1795, the design was created by Chief Engraver Robert Scot and represented the young nation’s ideals of liberty and independence.

The 1795 issue saw a modest mintage of approximately 78,660 coins. Most examples were heavily circulated or lost over time, making surviving pieces in high grade extremely scarce today. Collectors prize this issue for its historical importance and rarity, as it marks one of the earliest appearances of Liberty and the American eagle on a circulating silver coin.

Design

The obverse features Liberty facing right with flowing hair, symbolizing freedom and the spirit of a new republic. The word LIBERTY appears above, with fifteen stars surrounding the portrait representing the states of the Union at the time.

The reverse displays a small eagle perched within a wreath, a motif that would appear on other early U.S. silver denominations. The coin’s soft silver luster and natural toning highlight the fine details of both Liberty and the eagle.

This PCGS XF45 CAC example retains excellent definition across Liberty’s hair and the eagle’s wings, with smooth, original surfaces that reflect careful preservation. It is a superb representation of early U.S. Mint craftsmanship and an essential piece for advanced collectors of early American silver coinage.

A LITTLE STICKER MAKES A BIG DIFFERENCE.

Within each number of the coin grading scale is a small range of condition from low-end to high-end. Certified coins of the same grade can be of varying quality. Many of today’s collectors want coins that are solid or premium quality for their assigned grade. CAC holds coins to a higher standard so you can be confident in the value of yours. We verify previously graded coins … and award our sticker only to those coins that meet the standard for today’s selective buyer.

WHAT THE CAC STICKER MEANS:

  • Verified. Your coin has been verified as meeting the standard for strict quality within its grade.
  • Guaranteed. CAC stands behind our verification.

THE CAC STICKER IS BACKED BY EXPERIENCE.

CAC was founded by leading members of the numismatic community, including John Albanese, a respected authority on coin grading and the rare coin market.
