1/2 oz American Gold Eagle Coin (BU, Dates Vary)
History
The United States of America became an international gold bullion seller in 1986 with the introduction of the American Gold Eagle bullion coin program.
America had never created a purely bullion coin before, so this was a real opportunity to get Americans and international buyers own American gold coins.
Design
The United States Mint, in order to assure as much success as possible chose their rendition of Augustus Saint-Gaudens’ famous $20 Gold Double Eagle design for the obverse. This much heralded design incorporates Miss Liberty holding a torch and an olive branch, surrounded by tiny stars and the word “LIBERTY.” In the background are the rays of the sun and Washington, DC.
The reverse design, from 1986 part-way through 2021, was Miley Busiek’s ‘Family of Eagles’ design. Part-way through 2021, the reverse design was changed from the original to a closeup of the head and beak of an American Bald Eagle, designed by artist, Jennie Norris.
The coin is struck in both Brilliant Uncirculated and Proof methods of manufacturing. It is comprised of .22 carat (.9167 Fine) gold. The dates are of our choice, based on the dates that are in our inventory.
The One-Half Troy Ounce design is an excellent size as it is approximately half the cost of a One Troy Ounce coin, without having an inordinately high premium.
