Took me over 30 minutes and multiple attempts to buy this coin. Venmo flat out doesn't work so don't offer it. Most sites these days offer Apple Pay or similar where 1 click buys and ships to my house. Not manually filling out many fields multiple times.

Introduction

The 1893-S $1 Morgan Dollar graded PCGS AU50 CAC is a high-grade circulated example of the key business-strike issue in the Morgan Dollar series. With a mintage of just 100,000 coins, the 1893-S has the lowest circulation-strike mintage of any Morgan Dollar. Graded AU50 by Professional Coin Grading Service (PCGS), this example retains substantial original detail and traces of mint luster, while CAC approval recognizes its quality and eye appeal within the assigned grade.

History

The Morgan Silver Dollar was introduced in 1878 following passage of the Bland-Allison Act, which required the U.S. Treasury to purchase large quantities of silver for coinage. Designed by George T. Morgan, the silver dollar was struck at several U.S. Mint facilities and became one of the most widely collected American coin series.

Morgan Dollar production declined sharply in 1893. The San Francisco Mint struck only 100,000 Morgan Dollars that year, creating the lowest-mintage business-strike issue of the entire series. Most entered circulation, and relatively few were preserved in high grades. Today, the 1893-S is widely recognized as one of the defining key dates required for a complete Morgan Dollar collection.

Design

The obverse features George T. Morgan's left-facing portrait of Liberty wearing a Phrygian cap adorned with agricultural elements and a band inscribed with LIBERTY. The motto E PLURIBUS UNUM appears above, thirteen stars flank the portrait, and the date 1893 appears below.

The reverse depicts an American bald eagle with outstretched wings, holding an olive branch and arrows in its talons. A wreath surrounds the eagle, while the inscriptions UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, IN GOD WE TRUST, and ONE DOLLAR complete the design. The S mintmark beneath the wreath identifies the coin as a product of the San Francisco Mint.

A LITTLE STICKER MAKES A BIG DIFFERENCE.

Within each number of the coin grading scale is a small range of condition from low-end to high-end. Certified coins of the same grade can be of varying quality. Many of today’s collectors want coins that are solid or premium quality for their assigned grade. CAC holds coins to a higher standard so you can be confident in the value of yours. We verify previously graded coins … and award our sticker only to those coins that meet the standard for today’s selective buyer.

WHAT THE CAC STICKER MEANS:

  • Verified. Your coin has been verified as meeting the standard for strict quality within its grade.
  • Guaranteed. CAC stands behind our verification.

THE CAC STICKER IS BACKED BY EXPERIENCE.

CAC was founded by leading members of the numismatic community, including John Albanese, a respected authority on coin grading and the rare coin market.
