History

American Silver Eagle bullion coins are some of the most collected coins in the world today. These large, heavy, pure silver coins appeal to people who simply want to own silver as a precious metal. Their demand puts pressure on the available supply.
But collectors and investors look for something scarcer than just the silver metal. Often, they are intrigued and acquire coins made of silver, especially those that are in very high grade (the condition of the coin) and are very scarce.
The American Silver Eagle bullion coin program turned millions of ounces of American silver into such coins. The coins themselves can be very valuable. Silver Eagles that were struck in lower mintages have that scarcity component. But also, Silver Eagles that are unimprovable in quality are also in demand.
When the quality of a coin is nearing perfection many times it will be graded and encapsulated by one of the major, independent, third-party grading services.
Design

This particular coin is a 2000-P American Silver Eagle coin. It was graded and encapsulated by the Numismatic Guaranty Corporation (NGC) as grading Proof-70. That is the highest grade that a coin can attain. The condition of the coin is remarkable. In addition to receiving the highest grade possible, it also receive a special designation from NGC.
But not only is this coin graded as Proof-70, it is also designated as being “ULTRA CAMEO” which means that it has frosted devices and mirrored fields. They are the rarest and most desirable of all Proof coins.
As with all silver eagle coins, the obverse depicts Miss Liberty wrapped in flowing  and an American flag. Her right arm is outstretched in friendship while her left hand is holding olive branches. A brilliant sun rises behind her.
The reverse was designed by the Chief Engraver of the United States Mint John Mercanti. His design recreated the Heraldic Eagle coinage design that was first used in the 1790s
