2002 1 oz Silver Eagle NGC MS69

The United States Mint began to strike American Silver Eagle bullion coins in 1986. They were tremendously popular due to the fact that they were struck out of .999 Fine Silver, each coin weighed One Troy Ounce and they had a wonderful design.
The designs used on the Silver American Eagle coins also contributed to their popularity. The obverse of the coin utilizes the Walking Liberty design by Adolph Weinman that was used on our circulating silver half dollar coins between 1916 and 1947.
Miss Liberty strides across the coin to the viewer’s left. She is garbed in flowing robes and has an American flag draped across her shoulders. Her right hand is extended forward as a friendly gesture, while her left arm clutches bundles of olive branches. The date of minting is displayed on the lower periphery, underneath Miss Liberty and on the upper periphery is the word “LIBERTY.” In the right open field is the motto “IN GOD WE TRUST.”
The reverse uses Chief-Engraver John Mercanti’s depiction of an American Heraldic Eagle.  The large eagle has wings outstretched and pointing upwards. Her body has a shield in front of it and one talon is clutching arrows and the other is holding an olive branch, demonstrating she is ready for war or peace.  Above the eagle are 13 five-pointed stars and adorning the upper periphery are the words “UNITED STATES OF AMERICA.” On the lower periphery are the words “1 OZ. FINE SILVER – ONE DOLLAR.”
This coin has been graded by the Numismatic Guaranty Corporation (NGC). NGC grades, authenticates, and encapsulates coins and their grading is widely accepted. The insert label states that this coin is graded as MS69, which puts it only one point away from perfection.
