Introduction

The 1925 $1 Peace Dollar is a classic American silver coin created to commemorate peace following World War I. Designed by sculptor Anthony de Francisci, the Peace Dollar combines distinctive early 20th-century artistry with one of the most recognizable designs in U.S. coinage. This 1925 Peace Dollar is graded PCGS MS63, representing a Choice Uncirculated coin with no wear from circulation and attractive overall preservation.

History

The Peace Dollar was introduced in 1921 as a successor to the Morgan Dollar and as a symbol of peace following World War I. Treasury Secretary Andrew Mellon approved Anthony de Francisci's design in December 1921, and the series continued through 1928 before returning for its final issues in 1934 and 1935.

In 1925, the Philadelphia Mint struck 10,198,000 Peace Dollars. This was the final issue in the series with a mintage exceeding 10 million coins. The 1925 Philadelphia Peace Dollar is also known for generally strong strikes and attractive luster, characteristics that can make well-preserved Mint State examples particularly appealing to collectors.

Design

The obverse features a left-facing portrait of Liberty wearing a radiant crown, a design modeled by Anthony de Francisci after his wife, Teresa. LIBERTY appears above the portrait, while IN GOD WE TRUST and the date 1925 complete the design.

The reverse depicts a bald eagle at rest, perched on a mountaintop and holding an olive branch. Rays extend upward from below, while the word PEACE appears prominently at the base. UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, E PLURIBUS UNUM, and ONE DOLLAR complete the reverse inscriptions.
