Introduction
The 2026 1 oz American Silver Eagle CACG combines one troy ounce of .999 fine silver with the security and presentation of third-party certification by CAC Grading. As the official silver bullion coin of the United States, the American Silver Eagle is recognized worldwide for its government-guaranteed weight and purity, iconic American imagery, and longstanding popularity among both investors and collectors.
History
The American Silver Eagle was introduced in 1986 following passage of the Liberty Coin Act of 1985. The program gave investors a convenient way to acquire investment-grade silver in a coin produced and guaranteed by the United States government. Each Silver Eagle contains one troy ounce of .999 fine silver and carries a legal tender face value of one dollar.
The series marked its 40th year of issue in 2026, continuing a program that has become a cornerstone of the modern precious metals market. The Silver Eagle underwent its most significant design change in 2021, when the original heraldic eagle reverse was replaced with a new image of an eagle preparing to land. The 2026 issue carries this Type 2 reverse while retaining Adolph A. Weinman's historic Walking Liberty design on the obverse.
Design
The obverse features Adolph A. Weinman's celebrated Walking Liberty design, first introduced on the half dollar in 1916. Liberty strides toward the rising sun draped in the American flag, carrying branches of laurel and oak that symbolize civil and military achievement. The inscriptions LIBERTY, IN GOD WE TRUST, and the year 2026 complete the obverse.
The reverse, designed by artist Emily Damstra and sculpted by U.S. Mint Medallic Artist Michael Gaudioso, depicts a bald eagle descending with an oak branch in its talons. The inscriptions UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, ONE DOLLAR, 1 OZ. FINE SILVER, and E PLURIBUS UNUM complete the design. Introduced in 2021, this reverse also incorporates enhanced security features developed for the modern Silver Eagle series.
