History

Gold has been renowned for centuries as having an intrinsic value. The ancient Egyptians used gold for ornamental objects and jewelry. Its pharaohs were sent to the afterlife in golden masks, chariots, and all kinds of jewelry.

First the Lydian civilization and later the ancient Greeks and Romans turned the raw metal into coinage. The Greeks, especially, honored their kings and gods with an incredible array of high-relief coins that are still revered today.

Throughout the Dark Ages, Middle Ages, and the Renaissance gold coins were the currency of choice for explorers, kings, and pirates. By the 20th Century, as some countries such as the United States, eliminated their gold coins, numerous other countries did not. When US citizens were again allowed to own and invest in gold in 1974, a truly worldwide market for investing in precious metals truly developed.

Gold bars have been in use for many years. The US government stored gold bars made from coins that were recalled in 1933 in Fort Knox. Bars were often transferred between financial institutions, but they became popular as a less costly way to buy gold in the 1980s.

As more and more companies entered the precious metal business, the numbers of manufacturers of gold bars grew. Most sovereign mints, like the US Mint, resisted the urge to strike bars so private mints led the way.

PAMP is the acronym for “Produits Artistiques Metaux Precieux,” which is headquartered in Switzerland. Their products are known for high quality and authenticity, and they have been manufacturing bars since 1977.

PAMP typically produces gold bars that are packaged in tamper-evident packaging and include an assay card. PAMP also introduced a number of anti-counterfeiting measures.

Design

Over the years, PAMP has produced numerous designs on their gold bars, but none have reached more accolades than their Lady Fortuna bars. These bars depict Lady Fortuna, the Roman goddess of good fortune, depicted with a cornucopia symbolizing prosperity.

These PAMP bars all come with a certificate of authenticity and may be of different design, style, or condition.
