Introduction
The 1901-S $10 Liberty Gold Eagle CACG MS65 is a premium-quality example of one of America’s most iconic pre-1933 gold coins. Struck at the renowned San Francisco Mint, this piece offers exceptional eye appeal, sharp detail, and strong luster that define its Mint State 65 grade. Certified by CACG, this coin stands out for its superior quality within the grade, making it a compelling addition for both seasoned collectors and investors seeking tangible gold assets.
History
The $10 Liberty Gold Eagle, designed by Christian Gobrecht, was minted from 1838 through 1907 and played a vital role in U.S. commerce during the gold standard era. The 1901-S issue was produced at a time when San Francisco served as a critical hub for gold coinage due to its proximity to western gold deposits. Coins from this mint are often prized for their distinctive strike and luster. Today, surviving high-grade examples like this CACG MS65 specimen offer a direct connection to America’s economic expansion at the turn of the 20th century.
Design
The obverse features Lady Liberty wearing a coronet inscribed with the word LIBERTY, surrounded by thirteen stars representing the original colonies. The date, 1901, is displayed below. On the reverse, a heraldic eagle with outstretched wings holds arrows and an olive branch, symbolizing strength and peace. The inscriptions UNITED STATES OF AMERICA and TEN D. complete the design. In MS65 condition, the coin showcases crisp details in Liberty’s hair and the eagle’s feathers, along with vibrant mint luster and minimal marks.
