It's a doggone shame that , after I purchased my silver, it went down dramatically. I'm going to stick to my guns and keep pursuing metals though.

I've dealt with other companies that deal in bullion and I always seem to end up coming back to Blanchard.

Introduction

The 1908-D $5 Indian Head Half Eagle marks a pivotal moment in American coinage history, combining bold artistic innovation with the expansion of Western mint production. Struck at the Denver Mint during the first year of the Indian Head half eagle series, this coin reflects a new design direction for U.S. gold while preserving the intrinsic value that made gold coins central to commerce. Certified PCGS MS63, this example offers strong eye appeal and well-preserved surfaces for the type.

History

The Indian Head Half Eagle was introduced in 1908 as part of President Theodore Roosevelt’s initiative to elevate the artistic quality of American coinage. Designed by Bela Lyon Pratt, the series broke from tradition by featuring an incuse design, with the devices recessed into the surface of the coin rather than raised.
The 1908-D issue holds added significance as one of the earliest Indian Head half eagles struck and as a product of the Denver Mint, which was still establishing its role in federal gold coinage. Coins from this inaugural year circulated during a time of economic growth and modernization, making well-preserved Mint State survivors increasingly desirable today.

Design

The obverse features a powerful portrait of a Native American wearing a feathered headdress, with the word Liberty incused above. Thirteen stars line the border, and the date appears below the portrait. The recessed design elements give the coin a distinctive appearance and a tactile quality unlike earlier U.S. gold issues.
The reverse displays a standing eagle perched on a bundle of arrows, with an olive branch below, symbolizing strength and peace. The inscriptions United States of America, E Pluribus Unum, and Five Dollars are incused into the surface, with the D mintmark clearly visible. In MS63 condition, this coin shows strong strike definition, attractive luster, and minimal contact marks consistent with its grade.
