The 2001 American Silver Eagle bullion coin is a very popular silver bullion coin. It is guaranteed for authenticity, purity, and weight by the United States government. Like all silver eagle coins, each is comprised of .999 Fine Silver and each one weighs One Troy Ounce.
This particular coin is a 2001 American Silver Eagle that has been graded as MS69, by the Numismatic Guaranty Corporation (NGC). NGC is one of the most well-respected independent, third-party grading services in the world. NGC’s grading opinions are very consistent and generally accepted without debate.
Being graded as MS69, the coin is one point away from the highest grade possible. Coins are graded on a scale from MS01 to MS70, with 1 being ‘barely identifiable’ and 70 being ‘perfect.’
The obverse of the American Silver Eagle utilizes a faithful reproduction of Adolf Weinman’s ‘Walking Liberty,’ half dollar design. It was first used on the Walking Liberty half dollar series that was struck from 1916 through 1947. It has remained for decades as a very popular design.
The reverse of the American Silver Eagle coin uses a Heraldic Eagle motif, which was generated by coin designer and Chief Engraver, John Mercanti.
Mercanti’s Heraldic Eagle reverse is similar in design to the Draped Bust Silver Dollar design that was originally used on 1789 to 1804 Draped Bust, Large Eagle silver dollar coins.
