Introduction

The 2025 1 oz Gold American Eagle continues the proud tradition of the United States Mint’s premier gold bullion series. Struck in 22-karat gold (.9167 fine) and containing one full troy ounce of pure gold, this coin blends artistic beauty with the enduring strength of America’s most trusted bullion program. Backed by the U.S. government for weight, content, and purity, the Gold American Eagle remains a cornerstone for both collectors and investors seeking the highest standard in modern gold coinage.

History

Introduced in 1986 following passage of the Gold Bullion Coin Act, the American Eagle series was designed to reintroduce U.S. gold coinage to the global market and give investors access to domestically mined gold. The coin’s design pays tribute to America’s numismatic heritage by reviving Augustus Saint-Gaudens’ celebrated Liberty image, originally featured on the $20 Double Eagle of 1907–1933. In 2021, the series underwent a historic transformation with the introduction of the Type 2 reverse design by artist Jennie Norris, depicting a bold close-up of the bald eagle. The 2025 issue carries forward this new era, uniting classic American symbolism with state-of-the-art minting precision.

Design

The obverse of the 2025 1 oz Gold American Eagle showcases Lady Liberty in radiant detail—torch raised high, olive branch in hand, the Capitol building visible beneath a field of brilliant sun rays. The reverse features Jennie Norris’ majestic portrait of the American bald eagle, rendered with lifelike precision to symbolize strength, freedom, and national pride. Each coin is struck in 22-karat gold alloyed with small amounts of copper and silver for durability, weighs 33.93 grams, and measures 32.7 mm in diameter. The 2025 Gold Eagle stands as both a work of art and a testament to America’s enduring legacy of excellence in coinage.
