The 2027 Lunar Goat 10 oz Gold Coin celebrates the Year of the Goat as part of The Perth Mint's Australian Lunar Series III. Struck from 10 troy ounces of .9999 fine gold, this substantial bullion coin combines significant precious metal content with an annually changing design inspired by the Chinese lunar calendar. Issued as Australian legal tender, the coin carries a face value of $1,000 AUD.

History

The Perth Mint's Australian Lunar Series III continues a tradition of precious metal coins honoring the 12 animals of the Chinese zodiac. The series began in 2020 with the Year of the Mouse, with a new animal represented each year in gold, silver, and platinum bullion coins.

The 2027 release celebrates the Year of the Goat, the eighth animal in the traditional Chinese zodiac. Previous Years of the Goat include 2015, 2003, 1991, and 1979. The Goat is traditionally associated with qualities such as creativity, compassion, calmness, and resilience.

The 10 oz gold edition offers one of the largest formats in the 2027 Lunar Series III gold bullion range. Unlike the 1 oz gold coin, which has a limited maximum mintage, the 10 oz version has an unlimited declared mintage.

Design

The reverse, designed by Wade Robinson, portrays a majestic goat standing on a mountain plain amid rugged terrain, with a solitary tree visible in the distance. The design also incorporates the Chinese character for goat, the inscription GOAT 2027, and The Perth Mint's P mintmark.

The obverse features Dan Thorne's effigy of His Majesty King Charles III. The portrait is accompanied by inscriptions identifying the monarch, the coin's 10 troy ounce weight, .9999 gold fineness, and $1,000 Australian monetary denomination.
