It's a doggone shame that , after I purchased my silver, it went down dramatically. I'm going to stick to my guns and keep pursuing metals though.

I've dealt with other companies that deal in bullion and I always seem to end up coming back to Blanchard.

The American Silver Eagle bullion coin program was begun in 1986. The US Mint struck gold and silver bullion coins to compete with the bullion coins from other countries. The coins were immediately successful due to the coins’ popularity. They were eagerly acquired by collectors, investors, and dealers globally.

The coins were successful in the marketplace due to the design, price, availability and due to the marketing of the series. To ensure the success of the coins, the US Mint decided to underproduce the numbers of coins that could be sold. This guaranteed the success of the early series as there was more pent-up demand than there was supply.

The US Mint chose a wildly popular design that had already been used on circulating coinage. The Walking Liberty design was made popular by being the design used on the series of Walking Liberty Half Dollar coins that were struck between 1916 and 1947. Those coins were designed by Adolph Weinman, who also designed the Mercury Dime.

The Walking Liberty design depicts an allegorical representation of Miss Liberty walking to the left. Her right hand is outstretched as a gesture of friendship. Her left arm holds bundles of olive branches. As a radiant sun rises behind her, the word “LIBERTY,” is ensconced at the top of the outer periphery. “IN GOD WE TRUST,” is in the field to the right and the date is below Miss Liberty.

The reverse of the coin sports a heraldic eagle, with a shield covering its body. There are arrows and olive branch in the talons. There are 133 five-pointed stars above the eagle. Around the upper periphery is “UNITED STATES OF AMERICA,” and on the lower periphery is “1 Oz. FINE SILVER - ONE DOLLAR.”

This coin is a 1988 American Silver Eagle which is graded as MS69 by the Numismatic Guaranty Corporation (NGC). NGC is a major, third-party, independent grading services and is highly respected worldwide. The grade of “MS69” means that the coin is but one point away from perfection, as coins are graded on a scale from 1 (Poor) to 70 (Perfect).

From 1986 until 1998, bullion American Silver Eagle coins were struck at the San Francisco Mint, but they do not bear an “S” mintmark.
