This is a 1990 American Silver Eagle bullion coin. It has been graded ‘MS69’ by the Numismatic Guaranty Corporation (NGC). NGC is one of the most well-respected major, third-party grading services in the world today. NGC will authenticate, then grade, and lastly, encapsulate coins into their specific holders. The grade, ‘MS69’ indicates that this coin is one point from perfection.
The obverse of all Silver Eagle coins depicts Adolph Weinman’s popular ‘Walking Liberty’ design. This design was used on America’s half dollar coins struck between 1916 and 1947
Miss Liberty is displayed walking to the viewer’s left. Her robes are flowing, and a radiant sun is rising in the background. The coin has all of the mandatory mottoes that are required to be struck into US coinage.
The reverse of the coin had a new design from the Walking Liberty half dollar. Chief Engraver of the US Mint, John Mercanti, was inspired by the reverse design of the Draped Bust Dollars, Large Eagl, that were struck between 1798 and 1804. This is an American eagle, wings outstretched and upwards, a shield covering its body, arrows in one talon and an olive branch in the other. Mercanti arranged 13 five-pointed stars above the eagle and placed “UNITED STATES OF AMERICA,” above the eagle and “1 OZ. FINE SILVER - ONE DOLLAR,” below it.
