Introduction

The $2.50 Liberty Gold Quarter Eagle Jewelry (Dates/Types Vary) offers an affordable opportunity to own an authentic piece of pre-1933 United States gold coinage. Once struck for circulation, these historic Quarter Eagles were later incorporated into rings, pendants, bracelets, and other jewelry before returning to the numismatic marketplace. While they may display evidence of previous jewelry use, each coin remains a genuine U.S. Mint gold issue with nearly one-eighth ounce of gold and a direct connection to America's nineteenth-century history.

History

The Liberty Head Quarter Eagle was introduced in 1840 and remained in production through 1907, making it one of the longest-running gold coin series in United States history. Designed by Chief Engraver Christian Gobrecht, the denomination circulated through some of the nation's most transformative decades, including the California Gold Rush, the Civil War, Reconstruction, and the rapid industrial growth of the late nineteenth century.

Because of their compact size and classic design, Liberty Quarter Eagles became popular as jewelry throughout the twentieth century. Many were mounted in rings, necklaces, bracelets, and other personal pieces before later being removed. As a result, these coins may show mounting marks, polishing, cleaning, solder residue, or other impairments that affect their numismatic value while preserving their historical significance and precious metal appeal. Dates, mintmarks, and individual characteristics vary based on available inventory.

Design

The obverse features Christian Gobrecht's portrait of Liberty facing left and wearing a coronet inscribed with LIBERTY. Thirteen stars representing the original states surround the portrait, with the date positioned below. The graceful design remained a defining image of American gold coinage for nearly seven decades.

The reverse depicts a heraldic eagle with a Union shield across its breast, holding an olive branch and arrows as symbols of peace and military preparedness. The inscriptions UNITED STATES OF AMERICA and 2 1/2 D. complete the design, while mintmarks, when present, identify the branch mint where the coin was struck. Though each example bears the marks of its own journey, every coin represents an authentic piece of America's pre-1933 gold coinage.
