2005-W 1 oz Silver Eagle NGC PF70 Ultra Cameo

In 1986, the United States Mint began striking the new American Silver Eagle bullion coin. This coin was to compete with the other silver bullion coins created by Canada and other countries. 

The American version of these One Troy Ounce silver coins was an immediate success. Both American and worldwide collectors and investors loved acquiring these beautiful and historic coins. 

The obverse utilizes a faithful rendition of Adolph Weinman’s highly popular  Walking Liberty design, which was first used on the Walking Liberty Half Dollar series from 1916 through 1947.  

The design depicts Miss Liberty walking to the left, with her right hand outstretched,  and a bundle of olive branches in her left. She is wearing flowing robes and an American flag. Behind Miss Liberty is a rising sun with rays emanating from it. The word “LIBERTY,” is on the upper periphery, the motto “IN GOD WE TRUST,” is in the lower right field and the date is below her.  

The reverse displays John Mercanti’s popular the heraldic eagle design.  There is an American bald eagle with a shield on her breast. Above the eagle are 13 five-pointed stars, and the mottoes, ”UNITED STATES OF AMERICA,” and “1 OZ. FINE SILVER – ONE DOLLAR,” cover the peripheries 

This coin has been graded as “Proof 70, Ultra Cameo,” by the Numismatic Guaranty Corporation (NGC). NGC is one of the most respected and important third-party, independent grading services. NGC authenticates, grades, and encapsulates coins.  NGC has graded this particular coin as perfect by using the “Proof 70” grade. NGC also designated this coin as “Ultra Cameo,” which indicates that this coin has mirrored surfaces and frosted devices. The coin displays a strong contrast between the fields and surfaces.
