Introduction
The 2026-W 1 oz Gold American Eagle celebrates a historic milestone as the United States marks its 250th anniversary. Certified CACG Brilliant Uncirculated, this special release contains one full troy ounce of gold and combines investment-grade precious metal content with the enduring appeal of America's flagship gold bullion coin. Featuring the dual date 1776-2026, this issue serves as a lasting tribute to the nation's semiquincentennial celebration.
History
Since its introduction in 1986, the American Gold Eagle has been the official gold bullion coin of the United States. Authorized by the Gold Bullion Coin Act of 1985, the series quickly became one of the world's most recognized gold coin programs. The 2026 issue carries added historical significance as it commemorates 250 years since the signing of the Declaration of Independence. The dual date 1776-2026 distinguishes this release from prior issues and connects modern American coinage with one of the most important milestones in the nation's history.
Design
The obverse features Augustus Saint-Gaudens' iconic depiction of Liberty striding forward while holding a torch and olive branch. The Capitol Building appears in the background as rays of sunlight radiate across the field. For 2026, the design includes the dual date 1776-2026, commemorating America's 250th anniversary. Also featured on the obverse is a special Liberty Bell Privy Mark, a unique addition honoring the nation's semiquincentennial celebration and distinguishing this issue from standard Gold Eagle releases.
The reverse showcases the modern bald eagle portrait designed by Jennie Norris and introduced in 2021. The detailed close-up captures the strength and character of America's national bird. Inscriptions include UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, E PLURIBUS UNUM, IN GOD WE TRUST, along with the coin's denomination, weight, and gold content.
