Introduction
The 1911 $5 Indian Head Half Eagle graded PCGS MS63 and approved by CAC is a high-quality example of one of the most innovative designs in U.S. gold coinage. With solid luster, pleasing surfaces, and third-party verification, this coin is well suited for collectors seeking premium classic gold.
History
The Indian Head Half Eagle was introduced in 1908 as part of President Theodore Roosevelt’s effort to modernize American coinage. Struck during a period when gold still played a central role in commerce, the 1911 issue represents continued production of this bold series. CAC approval further confirms the coin’s strong standing within its assigned grade.
Design
Designed by Bela Lyon Pratt, the obverse features Liberty wearing a Native American headdress rendered in an incuse format, recessed below the coin’s surface. The reverse depicts a standing eagle resting on arrows with an olive branch, symbolizing national strength and peace. The MS63 grade reflects attractive eye appeal with moderate contact marks typical of mint-state gold.
